The Heptatonics is the new project from guitarist and composer Wouter Rosseel, known from the Jamaican Jazz Orchestra. Whereas with JJO he previously linked Jamaican rhythms and jazz, with The Heptatonics he is emphatically seeking a different path. The band is carried by the powerful, soulful voice of Kapinga Gysel, who gives the songs a unique emotional depth.

The Heptatonics is a Belgian band that offers a fresh take on vintage Jamaican music from the 60s and 70s. Their sound is rooted in the golden years of rocksteady and early reggae, but is expanded with influences from soul. The result is music that sounds warm, danceable, and layered—a recognizable nod to the past, but with a contemporary energy.

The tight rhythm section of drums, bass, and guitar lays a strong foundation on which the horns and keyboards can freely color. The arrangements are compact and clear, but leave enough room for improvisation and playfulness.

What makes The Heptatonics special is the way they combine authenticity and innovation. Their music feels fresh, lively, and timeless.
