With Dub Takes, Belgian dub explorers Kosmo Sound dive headfirst into the echo chamber, inviting four heavyweight remixers to deconstruct, reimagine, and elevate their sound. Pressed on a 10’’ vinyl, this release is a journey through the many shades of dub, from raw and spacious riddims to deep, meditative grooves.
On the A-side, Ferocious Dub is transformed by Marius Couvreur (drummer of Kosmo Sound) & Christopher Lonneville (the band’s sound engineer), twisting their own track into a stripped-down, heavyweight stepper driven by fierce bass and space-defining delays. Following is Teddy Dubversion by Christopher Lonneville, who stretches the tune into a wide, atmospheric landscape where every echo and reverb breathes new life into the original.
The B-side pushes the boundaries even further. Hofstr. Dub comes courtesy of Daniel Boyle (UK dub producer known for his collaborations with legends like Lee “Scratch” Perry and Max Romeo), who delivers a vintage-style mix that balances raw analog grit with crystal-clear detail. Closing the record is Yeasterday Dub by Alpha & Omega (the iconic British dub duo active since the late 1980s), masters of heavy, mystical UK dub. Their remix is deep and hypnotic, evoking spiritual sound system sessions with its thunderous basslines and cosmic reverb.
Kosmo Sound Dub Takes is both a nod to the roots of dub and a forward-looking statement. Each remix offers a unique perspective while staying true to Kosmo Sound’s minimal yet immersive universe. Expect a vinyl that rattles the speakers, opens the mind, and carries the listener straight into the heart of the echo chamber.
