Description
The stirring sounds of Balkan brass, Ethiopian melodies and Middle Eastern rhythms make up the globally influenced album Al Wa’ Debt. The airy vocal talent of Morocco’s Aisha Haskal is the perfect addition to the songs “Monopoly Inc. Disclosure” and “Edala3 We3mel Mabadalak”. Guitar, brass and percussion sounds of the instrumental tracks “Addis” and “Belomi Benna” are most representative of Ethiopia’s golden era of music during the 1960s and 70s. Haskal’s cover of Medhat Assam’s “Ya Habibi Taala” showcases a superb blend of Balkan and Egyptian musical elements.
The album was selected by French radiostation FIP as one of the best albums of December 2011.
